New Blog-Jennifer Borgh Events Bridal Emergency Kit

Jennifer Borgh Events Bridal Emergency Kit

One of the most important parts of my service is coordination on the wedding day.  I  come prepared for any potential issues that can arise at a wedding.  From safety pins to deodorant, my bridal emergency kit comes stocked with quick fixes. Certain items, I use at every wedding such as bobby pins and tape and other items I have used once or twice(such as an extra garter).  I have sewed a guests dress that split up the back while she waited in the bathroom stall, cleaned dirt from many bridal gowns and even had to supply the pen that was forgotten for the wedding registry!

As well as my visible emergency kit, I also have my invisible emergency kit.  First aid training, smart serve training, floral design training, and many years of catering experience.  I can think quickly to solve issues so my couples can relax and enjoy their day.

As well as my kit, I suggest to couples that they bring things specific to their wedding.  Extra make up in their colours(especially lipstick), extra printed items(such as placecards, menus and reserved signs) and extra panty hose etc.  For men, I suggest 2 shirts, especially on a hot day.

Make your life easier! 10 Simple Do’s and Don’ts of Destination Wedding Planning

Wedding Websites

1.DO have a wedding website with all the details, photos and stories

2.DO NOT put time sensitive details on your wedding website such as payment deadlines, deposit deadlines.  Guests are likely to miss the important details if they don’t get around to looking at the website right away.

Guest bookings

3.DO NOT give your guests the option to book their package with anyone except your travel agent.  The easiest, safest way to ensure the lease amount of issues is to book as a group.  You might also have to pay increased pricing for certain items for guests not included in the wedding package.

4.DO NOT deal with any of the travel arrangements yourself.  Let your guests contact the travel agent directly to avoid miscommunications and broken telephone messages.  Travel is a very specific purchase, refunds might not be possible and there may be little flexibility to make changes so get the professional to handle the details to avoid confusion.

5.DO offer your guests the opportunity to be matched up with other guests to save on single occupancy charges(your Travel Agent can help facilitate this).

6. DO offer several room categories to accommodate guests that have different budgets.  Offer the entry level categories as well as upgraded rooms.

7. DO get your guests to book early and explain that hotels sell out all the time and booking early avoids being left out.

Choosing a Resort

8.  Choose a resort that is going to accommodate all of the travelers. It’s impossible to please everyone,  but try and consider if they are new/budget travellers or well travelled/have a larger budget.  Find a resort that will cover a broad spectrum of tastes.

Insurance

9.DO offer your guests trip cancellation insurance and also medical insurance.  It is VERY important to have your guests covered and have a full understanding of the insurance options(your Travel Agent can provide a quote)

Going the extra mile for your guests

10.DO accommodate your guests, if they need to fly on different dates then your Travel Agent should be able to accommodate this.

Do you need Insurance for your Wedding?

Weddings are suppose to be fun and a great day all around but what happens if something major goes wrong?

One of the most serious causes of couples being sued is liquor liability issues at their wedding.  There are many things you can do to prevent drinking and driving such as pre-paid taxi chits for your guests, Smart serve certified bartenders and organizing special rates for hotel rooms.  But what if your guests still go ahead and drive?  Are you aware that you may be held responsible for hosting the wedding?

Insurance provides financial protection against many of those things that can go wrong with your wedding plans, including cancellation from most causes beyond your control.

Here are somethings you might want insurance for:

1-Wedding cancellation: Reimbursement of all deposits paid or contracted to be paid for transportation, catering, accommodation, photos, flowers or dress because of unexpected cancellation of the wedding caused by: Death, injury, illness, jury duty or unemployment of bride or groom or immediate family. Coverage also available for unforeseen occupational posting overseas of the bride or groom or problems with the rented premises such as damage to the premise, closure by authority or bankruptcy. Extreme weather conditions also included.

2- Wedding photos and video: Payment of the extra expenses necessary to retake the photo if they cannot be reproduced for any reason including non appearance for the photographer. The cost already paid for the video is also covered if it cannot be produced.

3- Bridal Attire: Coverage for physical loss or damage to the bridal attire once the property is the care of the insured. Coverage will also extend if the supplier of the attire suffers financial failure and deposits are lost.

4- Wedding present: Insurance for direct physical loss or damage to wedding presents (24 hours prior and after the wedding) while property is at the couples home or reception location or in transit between the 2. (money and gift certificates excluded)

5- Honeymoon Cancellation: Will reimburse if insured suffers a loss of pre-paid, non-refundable cost for travel due to the cancellation of the actual wedding.

6- Loss deposit: Will pay for non-refundable deposits made to providers of any booked goods or services if they suffers financial failure or, if any booked live entertainment do not appear.

7.Liquor Liability: Only is a program designed for individuals seeking to cover their liquor exposure only or for organizations who already hold a Commercial General Liability that excludes any liability arising from the sale, service or consumption of alcohol.

Most of these types of insurance are available through providers such as PAL Insurance

If you are planning a destination wedding then offering your clients travel medical + Cancellation is also recommended.

2012 is here! Trend #10-Hanging Décor and Grand Entrances at your Wedding

As seen below, Celebrity Designer, Preston Bailey’s,  hanging Orchids at his New York Party that I was fortunate enough to attend.  Because of demand, these ideas have now become available locally.  Toronto Decorators/Designers can also offer their spin on this concept.  Hanging glass lanterns, hanging ribbons, hanging flowers and hanging gems among some of the options.

Also, grand entrances are going to be big in 2012.  Secret Gardens that give guests a vip entrance into the unknown.

2012 is here! Trend #9-Focus on Food at Your Wedding

Couples are cutting down the guest list and increasing the budget for food. They want to give their guests the opportunity to taste out of the box(literally!).  Food stations, chinese food boxes and long dessert set ups with bite sized desserts, continue to grow in popularity!  Hors d’ouvres aren’t served with tooth picks anymore but come in shot classes, and already on a spoon.

Guests are dancing the night away and need a boost of energy around midnight.  Food stations with sinful finger foods such as poutine, sliders or anything that might hit the spot.

These Hors D’Oeuvres were at Preston Bailey‘s New York party which I was lucky enough to attend!  Catering by Olivier Cheng
